Hail the KingFisher Flex!

Biotherapeutics, such as antibodies, constitute a rapidly growing drug class with a high success rate in a variety of therapeutic areas. Bioanalysis of these large molecule drugs often requires the development of assays that are both highly sensitive and specific. In recent years, hybrid LBA/LC-MS approaches have successfully circumvented some of the challenges in large molecule bioanalysis. Algorithme Pharma has validated an automated platform using the KingFisher Flex magnetic particle processor from Thermo Scientific. The KingFisher offers a fully automated high-speed affinity purification of proteins, biomarkers and DNA from a variety of sample material. The technology uses 96 magnetic rods to move sample particles through the various purification phases — binding, mixing, washing and eluting; thereby eliminating liquid handling and efficiently processing 96 samples in less than 15 minutes. Moreover, the minimal sample handling effectively eliminates sample cross contamination.

We have successfully utilized the KingFisher Flex platform to develop and validate several hybrid assays in our laboratory.
